Know all men by these presents that I J.S. Davison of the County of Warren in the State of Virginia for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to me already paid, do hereby sell and grant to Jack Carver, a free man, a certain boy named John, born my slave and aged nine years on the 28th day of the present month, of a brown mulatto color, and delicately formed limbs, the said John being the son of said Jack Carver, and this sale being made for the purpose of enabling said Jack Carver to emancipate said John, and on that condition. Given under my hand & seal this 7th January 1851.

The above named J.S. Davison this day, personally came before the subscriber a Justice for the County aforesaid, and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed. Given under my hand this 21st day of July 1851.
