I Lucy Hansbrough of Warren County and State of Virginia do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following. To wit first and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.
2nd whereas my nephew John Hansbrough in his own right is joint owner with me in the [?wapping?] property Lands Mill and houses being this lots of land purchased from James Conrad the one lot containing twenty four acres more or less and the other containing eight acres more or less, and all other lands to which we may be entitled under the contract aforesaid, with the said James Conrad, I hereby will and bequeath to the said John Hansbrough all my right, title, interest and claim to the aforesaid lands, houses and buildings being one moiety to him the said John Hansbrough his heirs and assigus forever. I further will and bequeath to the said John Hansbrough the following slaves to wit Jerry Fielding and Peter to have and to hold to him the said John Hansbrough for and during his natural life and at and after the death of the said John Hansbrough then the said slaves Jerry Fielding and Peter shall pass to descend and be the property of the said John Hansbrough’s children. I further will and bequeath to the said John Hansbrough all my household and kitchen furniture and all my interest in the stock of horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs, wagons, farming utensils, and all other property upon the aforesaid premises not hereafter after disposed of otherwise.
3rdly I will and bequeath to my sister Mary [?Nothers?] all my wearing apparel and my side saddle and one hundred dollars cash payable twelve months after my death, if she the said Mary should then be living and in the event of her death then to her children. I will to my brothers Elijah Hansbrough and John Hansbrough one hundred dollars to each of them payable twelve months after my death. I will order and direct that all my slaves not herein before disposed of be emancipated and set free after the expiration of four years after my death namely Charlotte, Ethelinda, Louisa, Mariah, Catharine Ann and Mary & Rachail & Henry the aforesaid nine slaves all to be hired for the term of four years and the hires are to be paid over at the end of four years in equal portions to the mother of each family to be used and applied towards their removal to Liberia and for their use after removing to Liberia at the end of the four years aforesaid Henry is to receive all the money that may be received for his hire as aforesaid, one horse of the value of fifty dollars and to the further sum of fifty dollars and Mariah is to receive the amount that shall be raised from her hire as aforesaid and the further sum of fifty dollars. I hereby appoint my nephew John Hansbrough aforesaid and James Keith Marshall Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me made and ratifying this only. I further direct that my Executors may execute bonds but without giving security as is said in such cases.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of March 1856.
The word “dollars” interlined before signia. I further will to my nephew John Hansbrough the lot of land adjoining [?wapping?] the same now in the possession of Isaac Simpson that is to say my interest or share of said lot.

At a court held for the County of Warren on the third Monday in April 1851 being the 21st day of the month. The last will and testament of Lucy Hansbrough dec’d was produced in court and proved by the oaths of Wilford G. Settle & Robt’ M. Stribling witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of John Hansbrough one of the Executors named in said will who was sworn and entered into his individual bond in the penalty of five thousand dollars conditioned according to law. The will providing that such a bond shall be taken certificate is granted him for obtaining probate of said will in due form. James K. Marshall Jr the other executor named in said will being in court and refusing to take upon himself the burden of executing thereof.
