Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Simpson of the County of Warren and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free a negro woman slave named Judith who was heretofore sold and delivered to me by Benjamin Grove and I do hereby declare her the said Judith to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest her, she the said Judith hereby emancipated is a woman of dark complexion about five feet four and a half inches high and supposed to be about forty five years old. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of November 1839.

At a court continued and held for the county of Warren on the 29th day of November 1839. This deed of emancipation from Sam’l Simpson to negro Judith was acknowledged in open court and ordered to be recorded.
