Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Bowen of Culpeper County in the State of Virginia for and in consideration of the good will I bear my servant man David commonly called Davy Jackson as well as for the further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Davy, do by these presents forever emancipate and set at liberty the said David releasing unto him forever all rights and title I may have to his service and making him so far as in to all intents and purposes a free man subject to the laws of the State of Virginia for such cases made and provided. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day of November in the year 1855.
