Know all men by these presents that I Esther Matlock of the County of Culpeper & State of Virginia, do hereby emancipate & set free my negro man slave Ira, commonly called Ira Field, receiving however to myself the services of the said slave for my lifetime, my object being in an irrevocable manner, to emancipate the said slave from the instant of my death. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 30th day of October one thousand eight hundred & forty six.
