Know all men by these presents that I Samuel K. Bradford of the county of Culpeper and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and do by these presents manumit, emancipate and set free a negro man slave named Lewis (commonly called Lewis Patton) and I hereby declare him the said Lewis Patton to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest him. And against the claim or claims of all and every person whatsoever, my heirs, exors, admors, or assigns do now and forever warrant and defend the said Lewis Patton and all and every of his rights, freedoms and privileges with which he the said Lewis Patton is herewith or is intended to be herewith clothed and invested. He the said Lewis Patton hereby emancipated is a mulatto of bright complexion, about five feet nine inches high, and about twenty seven years of age. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 30th day of October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty five.
