This indenture tripartite made this 30th day of November 1837 in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty seven between Edward L. Taylor of the first part, Sarah Ann Robertson of the County of Culpepper of the second part, and William Robertson and John Thompson of the third part, [illegible] was a marriage as shortly intended to be had and solemnized by the permission of God, between the said Edward L. Taylor and Sarah Ann Robertson, and whereas the said Saran Ann is possessed of a considerable personal estate being the same herein after mentioned and described, and whereas it hath been agreed that the said Sarah Ann should, after the said intended marriage had and solemnized, hold and enjoy the said to her sole use and benefit to all intents and purposes, as if she were still single and unmarried, and had never married. Now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises and also for the further consideration [illegible] by them the said John Thompson and William Robertson [illegible] the said Sarah Ann, in hand paid, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, she the said Sarah Ann, by and with the privity, consent and agreement of the said Edward L. Taylor testified by his being made a party to, and his sealing and delivery of these presents hath granted, bargained, and sold and by these presents she doth grant, bargain, and sell unto the said William Robertson and John Thompson, their executors, administrators, and assigns the following slave property to wit: negro man named Marcellus about 28 years old, Liles Augustus about 24 years old, Ditto Jacob about 24 years old, negro boy Henry about 8 years old, ditto Tom about 8 years old, ditto Jackson about 8 years old, ditto Edward about 2 years old, ditto Walter about 2 years old, negro woman Caree about 20 years old, ditto Augusta about 23 years old, ditto Daphne about 30 years old, ditto Hannah about 33 years old, ditto Emily about 28 years old, ditto Jenny about 17 years old, negro girl Dinah about 14 years old, ditto Mary about 13 years old, ditto Cornelia about six years old, ditto Winney about 4 years old, ditty Anna about 2 years old, and negro woman Cecelia about 40 years old. To have and to hold the said sales and the future increase of the females thereof unto them the said John Thompson and William Robertson, their executors, administrators, and assigns forever. Upon such trusts nevertheless and to and for such intents and purposes, and under such premises and agreements as are herein after mentioned, that is to say, in trust for the said Sarah Ann Robertson and her assigns until the solemnization of the said intended marriage, and from and after the solemnization of said marriage, then upon trust, that they the said John Thompson and William Robertson, their executors, administrators, and assigns shall and do permit the said Sarah Ann to have, receive, take and enjoy the said property hereby conveyed and the issues and profits of the same to her sole and separate use, and to dispose of the same by deed or will or in any other manner she may choose, without let or hindrance on their part, except as to the boy Walter herein before mentioned and conveyed. And as to him the said Walter who is now about 2 years old, the said William Robertson and John Thompson, their executors, administrators, and assigns shall hold him in trust that they permit the said Sarah Ann to have the use of him until he arrives at the age of twenty one years, and then in trust that they shall emancipate him by deed of emancipation, or otherwise according to law. And in case the said trustees shall either of them die or refuse to accept, if it is agreed, that all the trusts herein before stated shall may be executed by the other alone, or by his executors, administrators or assigns in as full and complete manner and form and effect to all intents as if they had been herein particularly mentioned by name.

This indenture was acknowledged in open court by William Robertson and ordered to be recorded, as to him and was proved by the oaths of William A. Winston and William A. Robertson Jr. as to Sarah Ann Robertson and Edward L. Taylor, which is ordered to be certified.
