Know all men by these presents that I David Jameson of the County of Culpeper did some time in the year of our Lord 1826, to wit, the 1st of December of that year, for a valuable consideration, to wit, the sum of eighty dollars sell to a certain Wilson Green then of Culpeper a free man of color, one certain negro girl slave then about five years of age named Rachel Mary of whom the said William Green was the reputed father, and did execute a receipt to him for the purchase money of said girl, which hath since been lost or mislaid; and whereas the said Wilson Green hath since left this county and as the law now is a conveyance or bill of sale to said Wilson Green would be of no avail as free persons of color cannot now hold slaves and as the said Wilson Green purchased said girl being his daughter with a view as it was agreed between us, to set her free and it would now be unjust that she would be deprived of her freedom.
Now know ye that for the considerations aforesaid and at the particular instance of the mother of said Wilson Green and the freedom of the said Rachel Mary, I the said David Jameson do hereby manumit and set free the said Rachel Mary and do release to her all the right, title and interest whatever which I ever had or may now have in and to her servitude for ever; saving however to the said Wilson Green his priority of the title as above stated. Given under my hand & seal this 2nd day of May 1834.
