Know all men by then presents that I William Gilmore of Russell county and State of Virginia do hereby of my own free-will and choice emancipate my negroe man slave named Daniel, & do desire that he be and remain in the possession of his freedom to all intents and purposes as if he had been free-born. Given under my hand and seal this fourth day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and five.
