Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Robinson Senior of Russell County and State of Virginia being impressed with the Sentiment that “all men are born equally free” and “that God made of one blood all the nations of the Earth”, do by these presents declare it to be my desire Hereby do oblige myself my Heirs, executors and administrators to liberate free and mansipate[sic] a negro girl named Sarah at the expiration of 17 years from this date- and a negro boy named Sawny at the expiration oof Twenty Years from this date- also a negro girl named Violet at the expiration of Twenty Years from this date- also a negro girl named Violet at the expiration of Tenty[sic] one years from this date being at this present time of the ages following Viz: Sawney and Sarah eight years old each and Violet about Four years old, all of whom were raised by myself. And at the dates above mentioned in this deed of Manumission it is hereby expressly declared by me for myself and my heirs and by me covenanted that the said negroes Viz. Sawney, Sarah & Violet above described shall be free and as free men & women enjoy all the rights and privileges of freedom – free from services to me or my heirs. But from the the date hereof to the expiration of the aforesaid Terms it is to be understood as the meaning hereof that I am to have and enjoy the personal services and Labour[sic] of said Negroes and to use and treat them as my slaves. _ And it is furthermore declare and expressed by these presents that the posterity (if any) of the aforesaid girls born during their servitude shall be free, males, at the age of twenty five years, and females at the age of twenty one untill[sic] which age they shall be considered as bound to serve me as my slaves. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 24th. Day of May in the year 1803.

This Instrument of writing from Saml. Robinson Senr. purporting the manumission of three negroes to wit a negro Boy named Sawney & two negro girls named Sarah and Violet was acknowledg[sic] in Court by the sd. Samuel & Ordered to be recorded.
