Know all men by these presents that we Thomas A. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises and for the reasons apparent on the face of said bond dated the 7th day of September 1837 and by the endorsement dated the 12 day of April 1838 on the back of said bond and for the further consideration of the sum of one dollar in hand paid by the said Daniel Williams to said Executor the said Thomas A. Tidball and James Marshall Executor of Josiah Tidball dec’d have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto Daniel Williams, a certain mulatto woman named Betsy the wife of said Daniel and her child William and such children as may have been begotten by the said Daniel & Betsy after the birth of the child William. To have and to hold the said Betsy and her child William and such children as may have been born after the birth of the said child William unto him the said Daniel Williams her husband, hereby conveying only such title as is vested in us as Executors as aforesaid and whereas the said Daniel Williams wishes now to emancipate and set free the said Betsy so as to have her release in pursuance to the laws of Virginia. Therefore know all men by these presents that I Daniel Williams have manumitted, emancipated and set free and by these presents doth manumit emancipate and set free a mulatto woman named Betsy this day conveyed to me and I hereby declare her the said Betsy be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person.
