Know all men by these presents that I John Campbell a free negro of Winchester in the County of Frederick and Commonwealth of Virginia, for and in consideration of the faithful services heretofore rendered to me by my negro woman slave named Nancy Campbell have emancipated and set free, and by these presents do emancipate and set free my said negro woman slave Nancy to have and to hold to the said Nancy Campbell her freedom forever hereafter. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the third day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight.

in the presence of
At a court held for the Corporation of Winchester on Friday the 31st day of October 1825.
This deed of emancipation was acknowledged by John Campbell party thereto and ordered to be recorded. And it was certified that the said slave is above the age of forty five years and of sound mind and body.
