Know all men by these presents that I Davis Hancock of the County of Albemarle in the State of Virginia have emancipated and set free and doth by these presents emancipate, manumit and set free from slavery and servitude my negro man named Spencer, alias Spencer Wooldridge (Waggoner) from this time henceforth to possess and enjoy all the rights and privileges which he would have possessed and enjoyed if he had been born forever. And I hereby warrant the right of freedom to the said Spencer free from the claim or demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever claiming by through or under me in manner or form whatsoever. As witness my hand and seal this 6th day of September 1837.

Albemarle County to wit,
We John Watson and John S. Cocke Justices of the peace for said county in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Davis Hancock a party to a certain deed bearing date the 4th day of Sept 1837 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Chesterfield in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hand and seal this 4th day of Sept. 1837.

In Chesterfield County Court September 11th 1837. The foregoing deed of emancipation with the certificate of acknowledgement thereon endorsed, made before two Justices of the peace, was presented in court and ordered to be recorded.
