Know all men by these presents that I William Kerr of the City of Richmond, for divers good causes and considerations, me thereunto moving, have forever emancipated, manumitted, discharged from my service and set free, and by these presents do emancipate, manumit, discharge from my service and set free my mulatto woman commonly called and known by the name of Caty Cheatham, utterly free and clear exempt from the claim or claims of myself, of my executors or administrators, and of all and every person or persons whatsoever, claiming or who may claim by through or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this eleventh day of April in the year eighteen hundred and thirty five.

State of Virginia, to wit,
At a court held for Chesterfield County at the courthouse thereof on the 11th day of May 1835. The foregoing deed of emancipation was presented in court, and proved by the oath of Samuel Taylor and R.W. Flourney, subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded, and the same is truly recorded.
