Know all men by these presents that I John Trabue the only & acting executor of Thomas E. Trabue dec’d of the County of Chesterfield for & in consideration of the directions & mandates of my testator Thomas E. Trabue dec’d as well as for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds bequeathed me by the said Thomas E. Trabue in his last will & testament for & in consideration of my solely acting for his [illegible] in sustaining the trouble as such & in obedience to his said will & desire as expressed in his said last will & testament entered of record in the county court of Chesterfield on the 13th April 1807 hath manumitted, emancipated & set free and doth hereby manumit, emancipate & set free the said negro boy Roderick in said will mentioned forever with all & singular the privileges & advantages accruing to him under the will of the said Thomas E. Trabue dec’d as well with all & singular the advantages immunities and privileges which I can grant or give him under the existing laws or statutes of the state of Virginia – as witness my hand & seal this 18th day of September 1816.

Chesterfield County to wit This day John Trabue as executor of the last will & testament of Thomas E. Trabue did personally appear before us two of the Commonwealth justices of the peace for said county & acknowledge the above deed as instrument to be his act of deed. Given under our hands & seals this 18th day of Septr 1816.

In the Clerk’s Office of Chesterfield County court November the 29th 1817. This deed of emancipation from John Trabue executor of Thomas E. Trabue deceased to Roderick Trabue & the annexed certificate of the acknowledgement of the said John Trabue taken on the 18th day of September 1816 before Haley Cole & Matthew Beaufort magistrates for Chesterfield County were filed & admitted to record.
