In the name of God Amen I John Robertson of the county of Chesterfield do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in the manner and form following. I desire my just debts be all paid in the first place. I lend my loving wife Ann Robertson the use of my land and plantation on Sappony Creek and my two stills and one negro man by the name of Tom during her widowhood also I lend her during life nine negroes by the names of Joe, Alice, Dareas, Milley, Edmond, Elsey, Milan, Adam, and Silvey also one feather bed and furniture having her choice two choice horses one yoke of steer and chaise and one half my household and kitchen furniture except beds, one half my stock of cattle hoggs and sheep and one half the plantation utensils at my plantation at Sappony in lieu of her right and dower in my estate. I give to my son Walthall Robertson two negroes that he has now in possession by the names of Henry and Daphney also one negro man by the name of Kitt and the increase, also one 1,000 acres of land in the county of Madison located by John Bryant and James Calwell and after my just debts are paid, and legaceys and his deducting two hundred and fifty pounds their to have an equal part of my estate with the rest of my children except my land in the state of Kentucky it being one thousand acres in a survey with Matthew Robertson to him and his heirs forever. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Turpin two negroes that she has now in possession by the names of Phill and Lucy also a negro woman by the name of Sue and their increase to her and the heirs of her body forever. I give to my son Peter Robertson two negroes that he has now in possession by the names of Joe Griffin and Bobb also one negro woman by the name of Leady and the increase to him & his heirs forever. I give to my daughter Ann Turpin one negro woman by the name of Winney which she has now in possession also one negro girl by the name of Jude and their increase to her and the heirs of her body forever also one hundred dollars I give to my daughter Martha Robertson three negroes by the names of Molley Viney and Matt and their increase to her and the heirs of her body lawfully begotten forever. Also one hundred dollars and one bed and furniture, I give to my son John Robertson four negroes by the name of Mike, Absalom, Cuttey, and Sarah and their increase to him and his heirs forever also one hundred dollars and one bed and furniture. I give to my son Richard Henry Robertson three negroes by the names of Will Fanney and Paton and the increase to him and his heirs forever also one hundred dollars and one bed and furniture. I give to my won William Robertson three negroes by the names of James Creesey & Frank and the increase to him and his heirs forever also my blacksmith tools, one feather bed and furniture also one hundred dollars. I give to my grand daughter Frances Cox Robertson one negro girl by the name of Achasey and her increase to her and her heirs forever.
I give to my negro man Tom fifty dollars also at my wife’s death or end of her widowhood his freedom and in case he should get disabled so that he could not get his living to be maintained out of my estate during life by all my children at an equal portion. I give to John Cousin son of William one half my mill on his putting her in [?reprove?] agreeable to bargain to him and his heirs forever. I desire that the land & plantation whereon I live and Mill may be sold either separate or together on a reasonable credit for the best price can bad also my stock plantation utensils also household and kitchen furniture not mentioned and the money arising from such sale to be equally divided among all my children after my son Walthall Robertson deducting two hundred and fifty pounds amongst such as shall be living and the issue if any their be of such as be dead also my land in the state of Kentucky it being one thousand acres in a survey with Matthew Robertson I desire may be sold for the best price can be had and the money divided among my children except my son Walthall as before directed my plantation on Sappony Creek and stills at the end of my wife’s widowhood or life and all the remainder of my estate lent her to be sold on a reasonable amount and the money divided among all my children then living or the issue of such as should be dead if any to them and theirs forever.
I appoint my friend Thomas Burfoot my son Walthall Robertson and John Robertson executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have unto set my hand and seal this twenty seventh day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety six. [?Intestined?] before signed in the presence of

I desire the following alterations may be made to and considered as a part of my last will & testament first I desire my wife may have the land whereon I live instead of the land on Sappony subject in every respect to the same terms and conditions with one half the plantation utensils.
My Sappony land I desire may be sold in the same manner as by this my last will is directed as to the land whereon I live and the money arising from such sale after paying to my son Peter to whom I now give it the sum of four hundred dollars to be divided and go as is directed for the land whereon I live. Instead of one hundred dollars which I have given my daughter Martha, I give her one mare named Trimmer. Instead of one hundred dollars which I have given my son John I give him one mare named Flower. In witness whereof I have to this codicil set my hand and affixed my seal this eleventh day of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight.
