Text of Freedom Document

My will is that Becky Cuffie’s wife shall have her freedom so soon as she and her husband has made compensation for sixty two pounds ten shillings given for her. My will also is that my land in York County be sold with all the stock of my store on hand the debts due collected and all my just debts punctually paid whatever moneys then remaining shall be put in trade with John Hendrick or some other careful person and if J. Hendrick will manage the cole [sic] business with Benjamin he shall have the same of one hundred pounds out of the profits for his service and wagon shall remain with coal mines and after giving my sister Nancy twenty pounds per year during her life the [illegible] neat proceeds shall be applied most prudently to the support of the poorest widows and orphans who shall be sought out by Benjamin Branch, James Okelly, and John Straton now residing in Norfolk whom I appoint my Executors and such as they may think necessary to [illegible] with the advice of the Methodist conference of the south district of Virginia and my will is the profits that may be made yearly from the coal pits shall be applied as aforesaid but the coal mines shall never be sold if they are they shall revert to the children of my sister Sally Bingley Elizabeth Allen & Nancy Barker.
