This deed made this 24th day of October 1859 between Thomas McDannald of the County of Lewis of the one part, and his man Riley, who has been residing at the Mann Spring in the County of Bath of the other part. Witnesseth that said Thomas McDannald for and in consideration of money paid by said Riley to Daniel G Wise of the Mann Springs, do emancipate and set free my said man Riley, and confer upon him all the rights and privileges appertaining to a free man of color by the laws of this Commonwealth. Witness the following signature and seal, the day and year above.

Lewis County, to wit:
This day Thomas McDannald the party to the above deed of emancipation bearing date the 20th day of October 1859 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace for said County, and in my County aforesaid, and acknowledged that he had executed the said deed, and required me to certify said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Bath, in order that it may be recorded. Given under my hand and seal this 17th day of November 1859.
