In the name of God Amen. I John Brown of the County of Bath and Commonwealth of Virginia of sound mind and disposing memory for which I desire to be thankful to the bountiful donor of all good, being desirous to dispose of such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath in manner following. I desire that all my just debts be paid as soon as possible the make and manner of doing and discharging that duty I leave to the wisdom and discretion of my Executors hereafter named. My will is I give and bequeath to my two daughters Peggy Brown whom is Peggy Wallace and Rosannah Brown otherwise Rosannah Morgan and to their heirs forever all my lands lying on the East side of the Cowpasture River joining the lands of John Lewis and crossing the river to his corner and thence up the river on the West side to the mouth of the line hill draft, and thence down the branch joining out of said draft to where it empties into the Cowpasture thence up the river and the difference courses of said land to be equally divided between them according to quantity and quality each of them paying to my son Joseph Brown two hundred and fifty dollars. I also will unto my daughter Peggy and heirs of her body two negro girls to wit- Seyly and Vivian. I also will unto my daughter Rosannah and the heirs of her body two negro girls to wit Easley and Sally. I will and bequeath to my grandson N J Brown Morgan my negro boy William. I will and bequeath to my grandson John Brown Wallace my negro boy Moses. My will is that my negro man Harry be discharged from all future service and fully emancipated agreeably to the laws of the Commonwealth. The residue of my estate real and personal I will and bequeath to my son John Brown and his heirs paying to my son Joseph Brown five hundred dollars. My desire is that my remains may be buried and joining the remains of my deceased wife, and finally I do constitute and appoint John Brown, Gerard Morgan and Joseph Wallace Executors of this my last will and testament, revoking all other or former wills or testaments heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this sixth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four.

Whereas in my will the date of which I do not at this time recollect witnesses by Matthew Wallace, William Benson & Charles Hansell & deposited in the hand of Gerard Morgan I did in said will bequeath to my daughter Peggy Brown, alias Peggy Wallace my negro girl Vivian. I hereby revoke the said bequeath and do make the following. The said negro girl Vivian I will and bequeath to my granddaughter Mary Ann Blackburn Brown and to her heirs and assigus confirming and establishing all other presents of the aforesaid will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight. 1818. The word bequeath interlined before signing.

This last will and testament of John Brown with a codicil was presented in court and the will proved by William Benson, and the codicil by William Benson and Archer P Strother. And at a court held for said county August term following of the said court the will was proved by Matthew Wallace and together with the codicil was ordered to be recorded.
