Know all men by these presents that I, Joseph Nicklen of the County of Rappahannock in the State of Virginia, have emancipated and se free, and do by these presents, emancipate and set free my negro woman Harriet, who calls herself Harriet Stewart, now about forty two years of age, hereby releasing, exonerating and discharging her from all service to me, my Executors, administrators and assigns forever. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirtieth day of October, in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty three.
