Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Corley of the County of Rappahannock and state of Virginia, do hereby for divers good causes, thereunto me moving, emancipate and set free forever a certain mulatto man salve named John, called and generally known as John Logan, who is about sixty one years of age, and that he shall, for the future, enjoy as full and perfect freedom as can be conferred upon him by the deed of emancipation from me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this ninth day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty two.

This deed of emancipation from Thomas Corley to John (a black man) alias John Logan, was this day produced to the court proved by the oaths of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
