Know all men by these presents that I Zachariah Mitchell of the County of Wythe and State of Virginia being fully impressed with a belief that it is improper in persons possessing the religion of Jesus Christ to hold in slavery their fellow mortals, have emancipated, manumitted, & forever set free & by these presents do emancipate, manumit, & set free the following slaves, on the conditions herein after mentioned viz. Dinah, a negro woman slave about the age of twenty years, Fanny a negro woman slave about the age of sixteen years; Alexander a negro boy slave about the age of fifteen years; and Thompson a negro boy slave about the age of eight months. It is however understood to be the express condition on which the said slaves are to become free that they shall faithfully serve as servants for the following periods of time to wit: the said Dinah is to serve until she arrives at the age of thirty years; Alexander until he arrives at the age of thirty years; and Thompson until he arrives at the age of twenty five years. It is also understood that the future increase of the said negro women Dinah & Hannah are to be free upon their serving for the following periods of time to wit: the males until they arrive at the age of twenty five years; and the girls until they arrive at the age of twenty eight years. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 9th day of November 1819.

At a court held for Wythe County the 9th day of November 1819. This deed of emancipation from Zachariah Mitchell to Dinah a negro woman slave about the age of twenty years; Fanny, a negro woman slave about the age of sixteen years; Alexander a negro boy slave about the age of fifteen years; & Thompson a negro boy slave about the age of eight months, was presented in court and acknowledged by the said Zachariah Mitchell as his act & deed and the same is ordered to be recorded.
