This deed made this 30th day of April in the year 1856, between John R Bryant Exor of Abraham Wilhite dec’d, Nathaniel D. Wilhite, Betsy Wilhite, and Patsy Wilhite of Mercer County and State of Kentucky of one part, and Lucy, Wilford, Frances, Lavinia, Jinny, Willis, Nelson and Lucy Catherine of the County of Madison and State of Virginia (slaves of the part of the first part), of the second part, witnesseth; that in consideration of one dollar paid the part of the first part and for divers other good causes moving the party of the first part, to the part of the second part, the said J.R. Bryant Exor of Abraham Wilhite dec’d, Nathaniel D. Wilhite, Betsy Wilhite, and Patsy Wilhite, do manumit and set free Lucy, Wilford, Frances, Lavinia, Jinny, Willis, Nelson and Lucy Catherine, slaves of theirs aforesaid and residing in Madison County Virginia who came from the estate of their uncle Thomas Shirley dec’d late of said county of Madison Virginia. Witness the following signatures and seals.

Madison County, State of Kentucky, to wit
I, M.T. Garnett, a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid in the State of Kentucky, do certify that J.R. Bryant Executor of Abram Wilhite dec’d, Nathaniel D. Wilhite, Betsy Wilhite, and Patsy Wilhite whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed, bearing date on the 30th day of April 1856, have acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid. Given under my hand this 30th day of April 1856.

I Thomas Allen Clerk of the Court for the county af’d do certify that M.T. Garnett Esq. whose name is subscribed to the foregoing certificate is an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the county afs’d duly elected commissioned and sworn, and that his said signature is genuine.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal of the Mercer County Court this 29th day of April 1856.
