Know all men by these presents that I Edmund G Chapman of the county of Madison and State of Virginia for and in consideration of past services, and for the further consideration of one dollar in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt of whereto is hereby acknowledged, have emancipated and set free, and by these presents do emancipate and set free a negro man slave named Neal who was acquired by me in right of my wife Martha S. formerly Martha S. Bohannon. Given under my hand and seal this 28th October 1830.

At a court continued and held for Madison County the 29th day of October 1830. This deed of emancipation from Edmund G. Chapman was proved by the oaths of H. Strangfellow and S. Borton and ordered to be recorded.
