In the name of God Amen. I Robert S Jardine of Madison County & State of Virginia being sick of body but of sound mind & memory do make this my last will and testament in form & manner following.Imprimis ‘tis my will & desire that all my just debts sh’dbe paid by my Executors hereafter named as well as my funeral expenses.Secondly. Having in the year 1807 when I left the country for Europe emancipated my house keeper Elizabeth Hall & her children I now declare it again that the said Elizabeth Hall & all her children are free viz Henrietta, Robert, Evelina & Harriett and it is further my wish & desire that the said Elizabeth Hall & her children above named sh’d as soon as convenient for them retire to some of the northern states if any thing should happen by which she or her children sh’d be interrupted by the late laws of this state.Thirdly. ‘Tis my will and desire that Mary Smith of London shall receive during her life time fifty guineas & annum to be paid by Colin Ross my friend now in London & in case their sh’d not be enough in this hands to pay it, the balance to be raised out of my estate in America. Fourthly. ‘Tis my will and desire that the tract of land in Madison and which I now reside sh’d be sold to the highest bidder on one, two, three & four years credit of the money arising from the sale thereof be put out at interest on landed security or bank stock & the interest to be p’d to Elizabeth Hall during her life & after her death, when her children are all of age the am’t call’d in & to be equally divided amongst her children & their heirs forever.Fifthly. ‘Tis my will & desire that all my bank stock fifty three shares which I hold in the Virginia bank shall still be continued there & the interest of it to be paid half yearly to Elizabeth Hallduring her natural life & after her death to be equally divided among her children before nam’d to them & their heirs forever.Sixthly. I give all my book debts, as debts of any other description and all my property or estate of whatever description wheresoever lying or being to Elizabeth Hall during her life & after her death to her children above nam’d to them & their heirs forever.Lastly. I constitute & appoint my friends John Thom, Colin & James Ross & John Mindell Executors of this my last will & testament hereby revoking all other wills heretofore made by me.
