Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin Dickinson of the County of Lee and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free my negro man slave named Henry, and do hereby declare him the said Henry to be entirely liberated from slavery, and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person, with which it is in my power to vest him. He the said Henry, hereby emancipated, manumitted and set free, is a man about six feet highin statue, of bright complexion and about thirty five years old. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 21stday of February 1848.Benj’n Dickinson (seal)Lee County Clerk’s office the 18thday of April 1848. This deed of emancipation from Benjamin Dickinson to Henry was acknowledged before me and admitted to record.S.W.S. Morrison C.C.Virginia,At a court begin and held for Lee County at the courthouse thereof on the 15thday of May 1848.
