Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Spencer being convinced that freedom is the natural right of every human being do hereby from that conviction freely voluntarily and of my own choice emancipate and forever set free a certain mulatto man slave by the name of George free man being about twenty four years of age well set and about five foot ten inches high. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26thday of July 1814.Joseph Spencer (seal)At a court held for LeeCounty the 25thday of October 1814.A writing of emancipation between Joseph Spencer of the one part and George Freeman of the other part was acknowledged in court and ordered to be recorded.Teste, Charles Carter C.L.C.
