To all whom it may concernKnow ye that I Henry Link of the County of Giles and State of Virginia being the owner of two slaves –one of whom is a man named Robert alias Bob about forty five years of age in height about 5 ¼ feet, in color black and bald headed, the other a woman named Phebe about 24 years of age, in height about 5 ⅓ feet, in color black heavy built –and in consideration of services rendered me by said slaves –for a number of years, as well as feelings of tenderness and attachment felt for said slaves and being anxious to see said slaves well situated and at liberty. Now therefore in consideration of the premises –I do hereby give & grant unto the said slaves Robert and Phebe their freedom, and do by these presents emancipate and set free the said slaves absolutely and forever, and I do hereby renounce and forever quit claim to said slaves, provided however that said slaves are to migrate from and leave the said State of Virgina. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 7thday of April 1857.Henry Link (seal)Virginia: Giles County, to wit:I Edward Hale, a Justice of the Peace for the county of Giles in the state aforesaid do hereby certify that Henry Link whose name is signed to the writingabove bearing date the 7thday of April 1857, has acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid.
