Know all men by these presents that I Delilah Harman late of the county of Giles in the State of Virginia but now of Mercer County for and in consideration of the natural love and affection I bear to them as well as the sum of five dollars have emancipated and set free and do hereby emancipate and set free my daughter Letitia alias Letty (the wife of Dangerfield Yeates) and also her son Charles, my Grandson, the said Letitia and Charles both now residing in the County of Giles and being my slaves. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 12thday of April 1856.Delilah Harman (seal)State of Virginia Mercer County to WitI Cornelius White a Justice of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid in the State aforesaid, do hereby certify that Delilah Harman whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date on the 12thday of April 1856 has acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid.
