Know all men by these presents that we Anderson Pack, Joseph Lively, Thomas J Hobbs, Elisha G Duncan, Russell French and James Rowland citizens of the counties of Giles & Mercer & Monroe & State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated & set free a negro man slave named Harry who was sold & delivered to the above named persons by John Chapman of the County of Giles & State of Virginia. We hereby declare the said Harry to be entirely liberated from slavery & entitled to all the rights & privileges of a freeperson of color with which it is in our power to invest him he the said Harry is a man of a very dark complexion about five feet five or six inches high & about fifty five or six years old.
