Be it known to all whom these presents may concern that agreeably to the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia authorizing the manumission of slaves. I William Neal of the County of Giles and Commonwealth aforesaid from the said authority being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind, that God one blood created all nations (Africa not excepted) and believing it therefore to be my duty to do unto all men as I would they should do unto me and having under my care a negro woman who I held as a slave to wit Edy who was bound in my family on the seventeenth of May 1803. I do hereby emancipate and set free she the above named slave and I do for myself and my heirs relinquish all our every right title and interest and claim whatsoever either to her person or estate which she now has or may hereafter acquire and it is my desire that she the said Edy and her posterity do enjoy their full freedom without interruption from me and my heirs forever.
