Be it known to all whom these presents may concern that I Elias Harman of Giles County being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of mankind that God of one blood created all nations (Africa not excepted). Conscious therefore that it is my duty to do unto all men as I would they should do to me and having under my care several negro slaves whom I have hitherto held as such (to wit) Frank who is about 35 years old and Febe who is about the same age. I do hereby emancipate and set free the above named slaves and do for myself my heirs Executors or adm’s relinquish all and every right title interest and claim or pretention of claim whatever to the above named slaves or to their estate which they may hereafter acquire and it is my wish that them and their posterity may enjoy that full freedom without interruption from me or any person claiming by from or under me in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 25thMarch 1828.Elias Harman (seal)Virginia to witI David French Clerk of Giles County do hereby certify that the within indenture of emancipation from Elias Harman to emancipate Frank and Phebe two of his negro slaves was acknowledged in open court on the 25thday of March 1828 which is duly admitted to record in my office given under my hand and seal of office this 26thday of March 1828.
