We James English Sen & Floyd Payne of Franklin County and State of Virginia do oblige ourselves, our heirs to pay or cause to be paid unto Isaiah Cragshead admors of Lucy Robertson dec’dhis heirs the just & full sum of three thousand & three dollars-Virginia currency for value rec’d this 1stJanuary 1819.The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound James English Sr. hath this day purchased of the estate ofLucy Robertson dec’d a negro woman Mary & her child Darius the younger which negro woman & her increase agreeable to a decree of the County Court of Franklin is to be liberated & freed she & her increase when they arrive to the age of forty yearswhich will be at the expiration of twenty years (for Mary) from the date thereof. Now if the above bound James English Sen. shall well & fully conform to the intent & meaning of the aforesaid decree in emancipating the aforesaid slave Mary & her child Darius-the younger & future increase of said Mary when they severally arrive to the age of for the males forty four years & the females forty, then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force & virtue.
