We James English Jr. & George Parker of Franklin County and State of Virginia do oblige ourselves our heirs &e to pay or cause to be paid unto Isaiah Cragshead admrs of Lucy Robertson dec’dthe just and full sum of sixteen hundred dollars Va. currency for value rec’d this 1stJany 1819. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound James English Jr. hath this day purchased of the estate of Lucy Robertson dec’d a negro fellow named Darius which negro agreeable to a decree of the County Court of Franklin is to be liberated and freed when he arrives to the age of forty four years which will be twenty years from the date hereof. Now if the said James English Jr. shallwell and truly conform to the intent and meaning of the said decree in emancipating the aforesaid slave Darius at the expiration of twenty years from the date hereof as above specified then this obligation to be void, or else to remain in full force and virtue. Witness our hands & seals this 1stday of January one thousand eight hundred & nineteen.
