We Thomas Johnson & William Allen of Frankling County and State of Virginia do oblige ourselves our heirs & to pay or cause to be paid Isaiah Cragshead admrs of Lucy Robertson dec’d his heirs & the just & full sum of three thousand & three dollars Virginia currency for value rec’d this 1stJanuary 1819. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Thomas Johnson hath this day purchased of the estate of Lucy Robertson dec’d a negro woman named Betty which negro with her increase agreeable to a decree of the County Court of Franklin is to be liberated & freed when she arrives to the age of forty years, which will be twenty three years from the date hereof. Now if the above bound Thomas Johnson shall well & truly conform tothe intent and meaning of said decree in emancipating the aforesaid slave Betty & her increase after they shall severally arrive to the age of forty years for the females & the males forty four & virtue.
