Whereas I John Cornutt of the County of Grayson and State of Virginia am the owner of the following slaves to wit: Rebecca, a girl about fifty years, George Washington aged about thirty years, Francis aged about thirteen years, Clark and Tate aged about ten years, and the said slaves desiring to be free, and I John Cornutt their owner and master in my conscience believing they ought to be free and being desirous that they shall be free do hereby emancipate and set them free and relinquish all claim and right of property in & to the said Rebecca, George Washington, Francis, Tate & Clark in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of November 1857.
