Know all men by these presents that I John McRoberts of Carroll County and State of Virginia for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and do bear to my daughter, Polly McRoberts, of the county & state aforesaid, as well as for the further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Polly McRoberts, at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given and granted & by these presents do give & grant unto the said Polly McRoberts her freedom from this day forward to superintend her own business to work and trade for herself.
Also I give her one small mare, one colt & gear and all the farming utensils; one saddle and bridle with all the household and kitchen furniture that is now in my possession to have and to hold the said freedom and property unto her the said Polly McRoberts, her heirs, and assigns forever. And the said John McRoberts for him self, and his heirs, the said property unto the said Polly McRoberts, and her heirs, against the claim of him the said John McRoberts and his claim and against the claim or claims of every person whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness my hand and seal May the 9th 1844.

In the Clerkâs Office of Carroll County May 11th 1844.
This deed of gift from John McRoberts to Polly McRoberts conveying personal property and freedom to the said Polly McRoberts was acknowledged in the office by the said John McRoberts to be his act and deed and was admitted to record on the same day.
