Know all men by these presents, that I Anne S Rice of the County of Prince Edward in the State of Virginia, have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free, the following slaves viz:
William Deans born 1818 of medium height, black

Henry Black “ 1825 “ “ “
Isaac Black “ 1828 “ “ “ very black scar on middle finger of right hand
Edwin Deans “ 1840 large of his age, a mulatto
Davy Deans “ 1843 “ “ “ “… black
Milly Deans “ 1845 well grown… black
John Deans “ 1847 “ “ ….”
Isaac Deans “ 1850 ………………….”
Henry Deans “ 1849…………………..”
Nancy Deans “ 1852………………… “
And I hereby declare these said slaves William, Amey, Edwin, Davie, Milly, John, Isaac, Henry & Nancy Deans & Henry, Isaac & John Black to be entirely liberated from slavery, and entitled to all the rights & privileges of free persons with which it is in my power to vest them. In testimony whereof I hereto set my hand & seal this 28th day of March 1853.

Prince Edward County to wit: I Henry S. Gentry a Justice of the Peace for the county aforesaid, in the State of Virginia, do certify that Mrs. Anne S. Rice whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date on the 28th day of March 1853, has acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid. Given under my hand this 28th day of March 1853.

Prince Edward County Court Clerk’s Office 28th March 1853. This deed with the certificate of acknowledgement annexed was admitted to record.
