Know all men by these presents that I James H Tanner of the city of Richmond in the State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and set free a negro man named Isaac Cole a shoemaker by trade, who was sold and delivered to me by Archibald Vaughan trustee for James M Jackson, as by his bill of sale of the 30th May 1846, with the assent of the said James M Jackson therein written more fully appears; and I do hereby declare him the said Isaac to be entirely liberated from slavery, and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest him, he the said Isaac Cole hereby emancipated is of dark complexion, about five feet eight inches in height and will be 41 years old 1st April next. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 13th day of April 1847.

Wm Geo Fisher and Thomas Cooke Alderman and as such Justices of the Peace for the City of Richmond, State of Virginia do hereby certify that James H Tanner a party to a deed of emancipation bearing date on the 13th day of April 1847, and hereto annexed, personally appeared to us in our city aforesaid, and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of the County of Prince Edward, in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this 13th day of April 1847.
