This indenture made and entered into this 5th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety five. Witnesseth that I John Nash of Prince Edward County and State of Virginia for various considerations and more especially for the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds Virginia currency paid to me by the Reverend John B. Smith of the County of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, on account of the following slaves (viz) Olive Jackson and her two daughters Polley Jackson and Lucy Jackson. Have by these presents emancipated & set at liberty the said Olive Jackson, Polley Jackson and Lucy Jackson & I do by this instrument declare them free from the claim power or authority of myself the said John Nash my heirs, Executors, Administrators or assigns under any pretense whatever freely and voluntarily relinquishing all claim to the said Olive Jackson, Polley Jackson and Lucy Jackson, as slaves or command over them for future services having hereby vested in these and each of them fully peaceably to enjoy their freedom as citizens of the United States with out any lawful let or interruption from me the said John Nash, my heirs, Executors, Administrators or any of them to remain full and clearly acquitted, exonerated & discharged here forward to the end of their lives. It is however declared the intention of these presents that arguably to the Act of Assembly empowering the owners of slaves to liberate them under certain limitation they the said Olive Jackson, Polley Jackson and Lucy Jackson do accede to the covenants entered into by the Subscriber, their late owner. In testimony whereof I the said John Nash have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal the day and year above written.

At a district court held at Prince Edward Court House the 9th day of September 1795. This deed from John Nash to John B. Smith emancipating the following slaves viz Olive Jackson and her two daughters Polley Jackson and Lucy Jackson was presented in court and acknowledged by John Nash party thereto to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
