Text of Freedom Document
To all persons who shall see these presents. Know ye that I Sugars Turner of Greensville County and Commonwealth of Virginia for divers causes and considerations one hereunto specially moving but none particularly for the many honest, faithful and useful services rendered me by my servant George who is a trade a blacksmith, have thought fit to manumit him, and I do therefore by these presents emancipate and discharge the said George from all and every personal or other service whatsoever. And I do moreover for myself, my heirs, Exors and Admrs forever relinquish all right, claim, authority, and power over him the said George, his labor, services or any estate or property he now hath or at any time hereafter may acquire. In evidence whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth day of September one thousand eight and six.
