Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Rivers of Greensville County for good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do by these presents manumit set free and enfranchise a negro woman by the name of Lucy and her male child by the name of Goodwyn and I do hereby discharge the said woman and child from all claim of service and right of property from me my heirs and assigus forever, and from all and every person or persons whatsoever claiming any right to or in the said negroes or either of them and do hereby give them all the freedom they could have enjoyed if they had been born free. Given under my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven and ninety eight.

Greensville County Court April 1790. This deed of emancipation was acknowledged by Thomas Rivers a party thereto and ordered to be recorded.
