In the name of God Amen, I, Peter Lyons of the County of Hanover at now in Richmond, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit.
After the payment of our just debts I give to my sister all my estate both real and personal provided she does not marry Mr. Williams Pryor, but if she does so, I give arm called Steedley to S.A. Roane, daughter of my friend W.H. Roane forever, and the rest of my estate of whatsoever and it may be both real and personal I wish to be equally divided between my friends, Doctor L.W. Chamberlagne and George F. Crump except my negro slaves Edmond and old Judy and I wish them set free as far as the law will permit, and I also wish old Judy supported out of my estate. I appoint my friend P.B. Winston of Hanover County Executor, to this my last will and testament.
Witness my hand and seal this 20th day of January in the year 1837.

At a court of monthly session held for Hanover County at the Court house on Tuesday the 28th of November 1837.
This writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Peter Lyons dec’d was offered for proof by Philip B. Winsto, the Executor therein named and Wm Brackenbroug, Ezekiel F. Talley and Lonee Jones being sworn declare that they are well acquainted with the handwriting of the said Peter Lyons dec’d that they have examined the said writing and verily believe the same to have been wholly written and subscribed by him: thereupon it is ordered that the said writing be recorded as the last will and testament of the said Peter Lyons dec’d.
