In the name of God Amen.
I Anthony Thornton of the County of Hanover do make & ordain this to be my last will and testament revoking all other wills heretofore made by me.
Item. I give and bequeath to my niece Sarah Hall a negro woman named Caty and her children that she now has or may hereafter have to her and her heirs forever.
Item. It is my will and desire, that my negro girl Lucy daughter of Anna be set free.
Item. I give and bequeath to my sisters, Sarah Hall, Elizabeth Tomkies and Catherine Turner after the payment of my just debts all the remainder and residue of my estate of all kinds whatsoever to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever.
Lastly, I appoint Tho’s G. Taylor executor to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal.
This 27th day of February 1822.

At a court of monthly session held for Hanover County at the Courthouse on Wednesday the 25th of September 1822.
This last will and testament of Anthony Thornton dec’d was offered to proof by Francis G. Taylor the executor therein named and was proved by the oaths of Joseph Tomkies & John G. Taylor – two of the witnesses thereto and also by the oath of the said executor and is ordered to be recorded.
