Know all men by these presents that I Green Hill of the County of [illegible] and state of Virginia, being entitled as the whole and sole heir, to all the property of Chenar Hill and estate of which my brother Richard Hill deceased, late of the County of Dinwiddie and State aforesaid, died [illegible] and possessed, being induced by motives of benevolence and humanity; and for and in consideration of the wish, request and desire of my said brother as earnestly and solemnly expressed to me by him in his lifetime, and designing hereby to comply with and carry out his wish and desire in as ample, complete and effectual a manner as possible, have manumitted and emancipated and by these presents I do manumit, emancipate and set free forever from slavery the following slaves who were the property of the said Richard Hill at the time of his death, to wit Chenar Hill, a woman aged between thirty and thirty five years, Isora Hill a girl, born the 23rd day of October 1836, Jacintha Hill, a girl born the 25th day of January 1838, Indiana Hill a girl born the 26th day of November 1839, Alie Jane Hill a girl born the 30th day of April 1841, and Jacob Hill a boy born on the twenty fourth day of February last 1843, (the said girls and boy being children of the said Chenar Hill). And I the said Green Hill, for myself, my heirs & do forever grant release and confirm unto the said Chenar Hill, Isora Hill, Jacintha Hill, Indiana Hill, Aline Jane Hill and Jacob Hill, and unto all the future increase of the said Chenar Hill, Isora Hill, Jacintha Hill, Indiana Hill and Aline Jane Hill, all the right, title, benefit, interest and claim of myself and my heirs in and to the persons, labor and service or services of them the said Chenar Hill, Isora Hill, Jacintha Hill, Indiana Hill, Aline Jane Hill and Jacob Hill, and the future increase of the females amongst them as above mentioned. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this eleventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four, and in the 68th year of the Commonwealth.

This deed of emancipation from Green Hill to Chenar Hill, Isora Hill, Jacintha Hill, Indiana Hill, Aline Jane Hill and Jacob Hill, was proved by the oaths of Benjamin Johnson and Page H. Vaden subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
