Know all men by these presents that I, J.O.M. Merillat of the Town of Staunton in the State of Virginia do hereby manumit & set free my negro man slave named Davis Lewis aged about sixty eight years. Witness my hand & seal this 6th day of September 1859.

This deed of emancipation from J.O.M. Merillat to David Lewis was this day presented in the office aforesaid, and being duly acknowledged by the said Merillat before me, is admitted to record.
