This deed made this the 28th day of September 1859 witnesseth that I, Albert G Read, of the County of Roanoke and State of Virginia being the owner of a negro woman by name Susan have and do hereby set free and emancipate said woman, with her future increase in consideration and upon condition nevertheless that she shall depart and remain beyond the limit of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Witness my signature and seal the day and year first above written.

In the Clerk’s office of the County Court of Roanoke, the 28th day of September 1859. This deed of emancipation executed by Albert G Read was produced in said office, acknowledged by the said Albert G Read as his act and deed for the purpose therein stated.
