Know all men by these presents that I William P Buford of the County of Brunswick and State of Virginia, have manumitted, emancipated, and set free, and by these presents have manumitted, emancipated, and set free, and by these presents do manumit, emancipate, and set free a negro man slave named Dick (alias Dick Wilkinson) and who was sold to me by William Wilkinson of said County of Brunswick and I hereby declare him the said Dick to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the right and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest him, he the said Dick hereby emancipated is a man of brown complexion and about fifty years of age. In testimony whereof I hereby set my hand & affix my seal. Given under my hand this 22nd January 1851.
