Know all men by these presents that I Richard M Cunningham of Petersburg have manumitted & emancipated and I do for various good causes & considerations by these presents manumit & emanciapte my mulatto man slave named Cato formerly the property of Robert Wallace dec’d of Brunswick County and well known as a stage driver hereby for myself & my heirs releasing & renouncing all claims & title which I might have in & to the said mulatto man slave Cato & declaring him to be a free person according to the laws of Virginia. Witness my hand & seal this 13th day of May AD 1818.
