Whereas Elizabeth Woodson late of the County of Powhatan did by her last will and testament duly admitted to record in the clerk’s office of the County Court of Powhatan emancipate certain slaves to wit Joe, Mary his wife and Cathy her daughter and directed her personal representative to execute to said slaves a deed for their freedom. Now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises I Charles Selden duly appointed by the County Court of Powhatan as adm. or the said Woodson do by these presents emancipate the said slaves to wit Joe Mary and Cathy. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 8th day of March 1853.

On this 8th day of March 1853 Charles Selden appeared before me a Justice of the Peace for said County & acknowledged the above deed of emancipation to be his act. Given under my hand.
